Personal robots are yet another technology that is quickly becoming the way of the future. What we have seen in some form in movies, television shows and works of written fiction for the past 50 years, which was once a dream and a fantasy, is quickly becoming a reality. Whenever something stimulates our imagination, it is usually only a matter of time before innovation takes charge and those things that we have imagined start to take shape and form and come to life before our very eyes.

Personal robots, in some fashion, have been in development for many years now and it is just recently, in about the past 20 years, that electronic and computer technology have become sophisticated enough to drive such a device as a personal robot in a way that doesn’t take up rooms of space and be so cost prohibitive that only a billionaire can afford one. With the Robotics boom in the 80’s we started seeing things such as robotic arms in industrial settings, which could be used to automate manufacturing processes, repeating the same task millions of times with precision that could not possibly be duplicated by a human.

Now, we see fully functioning robots that can be used in the home for education, helping the disabled, playing games, doing chores and many other things. They possess autonomy, which means they can perform some functions without being instructed. They can monitor their own systems and know when it is time to charge their batteries. They can learn from each event and adapt in a way that saves time having to repeat instructions or preferences. They connect to your computer network, have sensors that tell them when they are about to bump something, cameras for eyes that can see and adapt to those images around them, and much, much more.

With our mission being to explore and recommend such types of innovative, future shaping technologies, iReviews is extremely impressed with choices that are out there today and we have compiled a list of the top picks for 2014 best personal robots, and we are sure that you will find something in this list to appeal to your own particular interests and needs.
